. in the race for the white house mitt romney cut short a visit to puerto rico to spend more time in illinois where he is tonight. romney planned to spend the weekend in puerto rico and left the u.s. territory after the short appearance this morning and told a small crowd he would support state hood for puerto rico and the territory is holding the primary tomorrow for the republican nomination. romney's visit comes days after rick santorum stirred up controversy there when he said the primary language in puerto rico should be english if the island wants to being a u.s. state. the comment upset the supporters and santorum has since tried to back pedal. >> we understand that the people from different cultures and speak different languages but we have a common language. that's what i was saying yesterday and someone was maliciously write that i said that and it is really unfortunate. >> the republican presidential hopefuls are focused on president obama's home state, illinois, holding its primary on tuesday and during the weekly address today the president focused on the oil and gas industry and
